Response to William Blake's The Tyger

(I put a "horizontal" divider bar between the poems here (rather than separate cells) since these poems might be very different lengths. You can add or own divider bar using the tool bar (it's to the right of the bulleted Ruby888 list).

Dragon

by Corinne Dyer

Dragon: scaly fire-breather,
why do you hide from me?
I searched for you, far and long -
under my bed, in a tall, strong tree.

Do you fly with others like you
or do you live alone?
Do you see the sights I see?
Hear the same dull tones?

Or is your life colorful and bright?
Blissfully worry-free?
Dragon: you mythical, magical beast
Why won't you come for me?

Parrot
by Katie Schoyer

Hello there parrot, as I look through your cage
I wonder what is your old age?

Is see your many colors, beautiful and bold,
the only color missing is sparkling gold.

Where did you get your colors, was it from the sun?
Or did bottles of paint come undone?

Then I hear you speak,
which is much more than a normal bird's peep.

Did you learn to speak at school?
Or is that one of your natural tools?

Now you move around your cage,
as if it's your own stage.

Are you happy, are you sad?
Does being in the cage make you mad?

Do you miss the trees
and the natural breeze?

Whether you're in the cage or perched on a tree,
I hope you are happy wherever you be!

Turtle

Mr. Turtle why do you move so slow?
You walk slower than the trees grow.
He responded with a happy face,
"You see more at a turtle's pace.
I take in the fresh air, the trees, and the flowers.
I don't mind if it takes me hours.
Everyone should move more like me.
Think of all the things you would see!"

~Felicia DeCaro

Butterfly
Caterpillar my you've changed.
Where did you get such beautiful wings?
You have gone and hid for far too long
And now you're back and changed your form.
I will miss you when you fly away.
Come back and visit me another day.

-Molly Gilroy

Mermaid
Mermaid in the sea, how did you get to be so beautiful?
Your tail looks as though its been made of a million little gems,
How does it feel to swim under the sea?
Do the fishes stay by your side for company?
Mermaid in the sea, how did you get to be so graceful and free?
Your hair looks as though its been made of pure gold,
Mermaid in the sea, how did you get to be?

Beautiful Flower

Beautiful flower, please tell me why
Your long blue petals match the sky?
You stay so strong, but are so small,
and no matter the weather you always stand tall.
And, even with the heaviest rain, your pedals never fall.
Oh strong flower,
how I desire your power,
to bare the strongest rain.
And even in the wildest wind,
your delicate pedals stay tough like a chain.
Bright, blue, flower please tell me how
You bury yourself so deep in the ground,
to protect yourself from the bitter winter sting,
only to come back again and sing in the spring
Bright blue flower, it is you I desire
For you withstand all, and never tire.

URI Squirrels

Why are you so menacing
The constant daily attacks from you are treacherous
I see you there at guard on that tree branch
You follow me, you stare at me, and you attack me
These relentless horrifying meetings must end
It’s you or me little buddy, I will not give in.

From the eyes of a seven years old…by Karine Noack

Sea

O, sea, so beautiful...
Where did you come from?
How did you start?
What makes your color blue?
Why is my tear the same as you?
Why do you become gray when you are angry?
What makes the waves?
How far do your waters go with external image arrow-10x10.png?
Does the same water touch all the coasts in the world?
Why do you get angry if you are a source of life?
Why do you get angry if you love us?
What can we do to protect you, so powerful yet so fragile?
O, sea, mirror of my mood, solace of my heart,
O, sea, so beautiful...

Snow that falls to coat the earth,
while I'm protected by the hearth.
Where is your favorite place to go?
A quiet valley or windy mountain top?
I like you best on a baker's shop.

What the moon is like
by Sarah Goodwin

It is much smaller than the earth,
so we would not fit on it.
There is no atmosphere or air,
so we would not be able to breathe.
It is always dark,
so we would not be able to see.
It is also silent,
so we could not hear each other talk.
But, there is low gravity,
so we could jump so high!

Flower
With a little sunshine, water, and love a little seed will turn into a flower of glee. Its sweetness will attract all or sorts of nature, from lady bugs to bumble bees. They'll sit on its petals and leaves. With a little sunshine, water, and love a little seed will turn into a flower of glee.

Fire by Tessa Kheradi

Fire waits until the earth is thirsty
arroused by temperature, it craves satisfaction
selfishly, it feeds on everything in its path
creeping in then blazing fast
it takes its time enjoying natures feast.
